UK duo Death on the Balcony's universal rhythms are no stranger to Behrouz's imprint, but this is the first time they've collaborated with German duo Flowers on Monday. Having crossed paths on labels such as Akbal and All Day I Dream, their sounds, styles and even aesthetic share similar inspirations and directions. It was only a matter of time before each kindred spirit entwines.
Four tracks deep, 'Ways & Means' brings out the best of everyone involved. Tailor made for Don't Sit On The Furniture's cosmic soul signature to the very last stitch, each cut ebbs and flows unhurriedly, hypnotically. From the gentle synth breezes and steel drum ripples of opener 'Crystal' to the final vocal echoes and last soldiering kick of 'Illusory', there's a hazy playfulness running throughout. Like everything both acts and the label have ever put out, there's a delicate balance of tones and textures that transcend any dancefloors many of us are still so far from seeing again. A perfect tonic for these turbulent times; let's hope more collaborations like this happen again in the future.
